Says Who?
It is a sign of the times, when the pervasive ignorance of our society is so mainstream that we forget Who is really in control, Who has the authority, and Who decides what is acceptable behaviour. This worldwide desensitisation has resulted in a flipped world where moral law, and what we feel is right, threatens to replace God’s absolute Providential authority. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate your feelings, really I do, but no matter how sincere, those will never supersede the truth that is God’s wisdom.
We’ve escalated our feelings, our viewpoints, and our opinions to the degree that we have masterminded for ourselves a set of moral laws by which we look to steer our lives. I’ve got some bad news for you - teaching good morals alone will never work! Moral law independent of God’s authority is a recipe for certain death:
“There is a way which seemeth right unto man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”
- Proverbs 14:12 (KJV)
Inherent in this faulty model, is the certainty of compromise - what was once “morally blacklisted” slowly, but surely depreciates into, “Oh, it’s just a movie,” or “It’s not like I’m hurting anyone,” or that old classic, “Did God really say…?” If you don’t believe me, just look at the sad reality that exists in our schools, where the Bible is outlawed, and it’s life-giving truths are replaced by poisonous political and agenda-driven propaganda.
A society that lives without Christ’s absolute authority, one where people foolishly rely on their own goodness to get by, is a fool’s errand. Described as futility and foolishness, where there is no reverence for the Lord, how can there be wisdom?
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
-Proverbs 1:7
“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”
-John 15:5
When you get the chance, check out the movie “Time Changer,” in which one of the main characters profoundly stated, “Reforming society with the teaching of the Lord, without the Lord of the teaching.”
I strongly believe in these, the last days, there must be an urgent return to the sincere preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ must be preached! No greater revelation of God is to be found, apart from Jesus Christ.
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
- Romans 1:16
Separating Jesus Christ from His teachings is deadly. Christians, in our effort to be relatable, relevant and relational, let us not forget to be revolutionary…in the name of Jesus Christ.
